Carladenise Edwards is the former Chief Strategy Officer at Henry Ford Health. And, her experience in the industry stretches from large health systems like Henry Ford and Providence to state government organizations, and serving on the boards of startups like Clover and HFMA.

She joins the show to discuss two concurrent issues that, as she admits, she has devoted a great deal of time thinking about — especially lately. Access to care and how it is paid for it are so intertwined that they must be thought of as a singular issue.
With regards to both, provider organizations must do better by patients on both fronts, she says. Because even if care is more affordable, there is still so much friction in the payment experience that patients still might not pay their obligations even if they want to.
