In a recent interview, Rick Toren, inventor of the Epipen and CEO of SwiftSync, discussed the challenges of labor shortages in the healthcare industry.

The impact of COVID-19 on the healthcare industry has ripple effects including numerous employees leaving the industry and rehiring those roles becoming even more of a challenge. At the health system he is a board member of, Toren says they need to fill 2200 additional roles just to function properly.

And that is a crucial challenge for all of healthcare. Toren offers insights into the tactics his health system is implementing to overcome this and reward employees who have stayed. Having employees that want to go to work is one way to impact the patient experience and make it better coming out of Covid.

Additionally, the interview provided valuable insights on how AI can be used to address and improve chronic care management in the healthcare industry. As Toren says, “We need to focus on one or two areas to become an expert in them.”
